Business Situation

Our customer is one of the first private entrants in the Indian telecom industry providing network construction, ownership and provision of basic telephone services. The need was to provide an integrated solution on the SmallWorld platform.

Scope of work

Our customer needed a highly sophisticated system that was easy-to-use and could integrate large volumes of network element data with geographical data and customer data. Since the customers had plans to expand their services not only to domestic markets but also to International markets, Infotech had to install a system that was globally proven.

The integrated system had to support the following -

  • Group activities of Internet, V-Sat, gateway under marine cable, Cellular services etc.
  • GIS System, which could import data from multiple mechanized systems
  • Integration with RF wizard catering to WLL services, TIMS, Lotus Notes, Oracle databases, CAF

Infotech Solution

The challenge was to provide an end-to-end GIS solution. The exercise began with the customer's requirement study, proposing an appropriate GIS solution, which could fit into their requirement and then implementation of an end-to-end GIS solution.

GE Small world's Model was used to represent their end-to-end telecom network and closely integrated with critical network operations such as network monitoring, fault management and work force dispatch. Infotech implemented GE SmallWorld to integrate their large volumes of network element and geographical data with customer, marketing and billing information. The system was customized to meet requirements of different user groups, such as Marketing, Network Planning, Customer Care and Operations and Maintenance group.

The implementation was completed in a record time of five months and was the first implementation of the GIS SmallWorld telecommunication application suite in India.
