An aviation major, Fortune 100 company

The aviation major decided to standardize its IT infrastructure across the globe for centralized control of information at its headquarters at Canada. As part of the process, the aviation major decided to have its Poland plant fully operational on SAP. It found its most natural partner in Infotech.

Project Profile

  • Re-engineer existing business process in Poland in line with Canada headquarters' business process - with Client team
  • Map the business process at Poland site and generate Business Blueprint
  • Complete configuration of the SAP system in MM, PP, SD, FI and CO modules
  • Complete migration of data from legacy to SAP in the required areas
  • Development of required interfaces, enhancements and other ABAP/4 objects

Project size & Duration

The project started in December 2002 and was completed, as per schedule on the 30th of June, 2003. The total offshore effort was about 60 person months and onsite 13 -person month. The Infotech SAP team for this project consists of 5 Functional Consultants led by a Project Manager and about 18 ABAP/4 (Technical) consultants. The consultants are experienced in full cycle implementations in SAP that includes generation of Business Blueprint, configuration, migration and development of ABAP objects. It also includes different levels of testing: unit, integration and acceptance; user training, and cutover for Go-Live. The major activities and subsequent benefits derived by adopting this on site - off shore model are -

On site

  • Infotech Consultants visit onsite (Poland & Canada) for requirement analysis
  • Define broad Scope of work & formation of Steering Committee
  • Formation of Client-Infotech Operational Team
  • Knowledge Acquisition at Client sites, specific to the SAP modules for implementation - SAP MM, PP, SD, FI & CO
  • Infotech onsite-offshore team composition and modus operandi for remote access, network connectivity and client-compatible quality plan finalization
  • On site cost of personnel from Infotech, compared to locally available personnel were enormously less

Off Shore

  • Infotech offshore team receives specification from onsite team as per client'’s functional specifications and agreed standards
  • Configuration work from both onsite and offshore
  • Data Conversion from legacy to SAP to be done offshore
  • Development of ABAP/4 objects at offshore
  • Unit testing at offshore & final quality testing at onsite
  • The off shore development cost using Infotech personnel works out about only 40% of their local equivalent
