Our customer is the first private basic services provider in India. It also introduced Wireless in Local
Loop (WLL) technology for providing the basic services in areas
that are not accessed by the physical network. Starting out
by providing basic services in the state of Madhya Pradesh, the
client has now established itself as the largest service provider
in India. It offers Indian business customers a one-stop shop for
local and long-distance voice, data, Internet and other value added
solutions.
Our customer needed a highly sophisticated system that was easy-to-use
and could integrate large volumes of network element data with geographical
data and customer data. Since our customer had plans to expand its
services not only in the domestic markets but also in International
markets, Infotech had to install a system that was both globally
proven and scalable.
The integrated system had to support the following -
- Group activities of Internet, V-Sat, gateway under marine cable,
Cellular services etc.
- GIS System, which could import data from multiple mechanized
systems
- Integration with RF wizard catering to WLL services, TIMS, Lotus
Notes, Oracle databases, CAF
The challenge was to develop an integrated GIS solution for the
client. The process began with a customer requirement study, proposing
the appropriate GIS solution, which could fit into their requirement
and then implementation of the full GIS system. GE Smallworld's
Model was used to represent the client's end-to-end telecom network
and closely integrated with critical network operations such as
network monitoring, fault management and work force dispatch. Infotech
implemented GE Smallworld to integrate the large volumes of network
elements and geographical data with customer, marketing and billing
information. The system was customized to meet the requirements
of different user groups within the organization, including marketing,
network planning, customer care, operations and maintenance. It
was the first implementation of GIS Smallworld telecommunication
application suite in India. It was also the fastest implementation
of a comparable Smallworld solution worldwide - Infotech received
the Smallworld Fast Tracker Award in recognition of this achievement.
